The Oculus Link gives you the ability to adjust image resolution width to further enhance visual fidelity in these PC-powered titles.

In this article, I’ll be talking through what encoding resolution width is on the Link, how to find and change this setting through the Oculus Debug Tool, and explain other graphics variables like bitrate and sharpening.

By changing these settings, Quest users can manipulate their VR visuals making them enjoy a higher resolution image while playing their favourite games.

How to Encode Resolution Width Oculus Link

Yes, we can now change the resolution width of the Oculus link. This was previously impossible, but this feature is newly introduced for advanced users.

This will allow users to manually change the settings using the Oculus link including increasing the image resolution. This will help in a more immersive experience by providing a clearer picture of Oculus Quest.

Oculus link is a new feature introduced by Meta for offline Facebook Oculus headset Quest. The main purpose of Oculus Link is to work as a Virtual Reality headset for your PC.

You can set up this system using a high-quality USB 3.0. This feature is currently in the beta stage and you can try it for yourself.

There is no need to worry about any kind of risk. There have been no complaints about any issues regarding the performance of the device. In case any issue arises you can always revert to your original settings.

Encode Resolution Width Oculus Link Meaning

Before we go into other stuff, you must understand what the encode resolution width with Oculus Link is. In easy terms, it is a new feature that allows you to use your Oculus headset with your PC.

What it does is that it connects your PC with the headset and now you can experience what you are streaming on your VR Oculus Quest.

This allows you to adjust the image resolution to your liking.

How to Encode Resolution Width Oculus Link

It’s not that difficult to do. Just follow these steps and you will be good to go. Before you start make sure your Oculus Quest is plugged in.

1. Locate and open your hard drive file on the PC.

2. There you will find the Program file and locate Oculus and click on that.

3. There click on the debug tool.

4. Next, click on the support.

5. Enable diagnostic by clicking on it.

6. There you will come across oculusdebugtool.exe. Double Click on that file and you will get a popup.

7. There is a row with the label “encode resolution width”

8. Do this step only if you are using Airlink ”Write 2880 next to the encode resolution width”

9. Do this step only if you are using Cable Link ”Write 3680 next to the encode resolution width”

10. After this go to the toolbar on top there you will find services click on it.

11. Click on “restart Oculus service” from the options.

If you are successful a pop-up will appear which will load the change you made.

This worked for me and it will probably work for you as well. If it isn’t make sure to double-check that you have all the steps.

Use The Oculus Debug Tool to Change Image Quality

You can easily change the image quality using the Oculus link. You can put in whatever resolution that suits your device.

Just go to the Oculus debug tool and follow the steps that I have previously mentioned in this article.

The quality of the image you will get depends on multiple factors including Rendering Resolution, Distortion Curvature, Encode Resolution Width, Bitrate, and Link Sharpening. This is how these factors affect image quality.

Rendering Resolution:

Adjusting the rendering resolution to a higher setting will get you a detailed and crisp visual experience, but it may also cause your computer to require more processing power.

Distortion Curvature:

Adjusting this your image will be more visually clear and it will also remove most of the warping at the edges of the screen.

Encode Resolution Width:

Adjusting the encode resolution width to a higher one might require more system resources but it will make the quality a whole lot better when sharing or recording gaming.

Bitrate:

Adjusting the Bitrate to a higher setting will give you higher-quality images, but they will put a lot of strain on your device and as a result, can also harm performance.

Link Sharpening:

Link Sharpening is when you use Oculus Link, this feature allows you to connect an Oculus Quest headset to a PC. Doing so you will have the images appear sharper.

Encode Bitrate

Encoding Bitrate is done to balance out the Visual quality and the performance for a smoother experience. Higher the bitrate there will be less degradation.

It will affect your VR performance while you are streaming, recording, or sharing.

Adjusting the Bitrate to a higher setting will give you higher-quality images, but they will put a lot of strain on your device and as a result, can also harm performance.

To encode bitrate follow these steps:

7. Type 350.3 next to the Encode Bitrate.

Link Sharpening

This is the new feature in v33 that enables you to connect your Oculus headset to the PC. Adjusting this will make your images sharper resulting in an immersive experience.

To set Link sharpening follow step by step.

1. Locate and open your hard drive file on the PC.

2. There you will find the Program file.

3. Locate Oculus and click on that.

4. There click on the debug tool.

5. Next, click on the support.

6. Enable diagnostic by clicking on it.

7. There you will come across oculusdebugtool.exe.

8. Double Click on that file and you will get a popup.

9. Locate Link Sharpening and select Enable from the options.

After doing that put in these credentials as they are mentioned “90 Hz with 1.5 max resolution 5408 X 2736. 2”

Make sure the link sharpening is enabled or this won’t work. After you follow these steps you can go and check the changes will be implemented.

Conclusion

In conclusion, the Oculus Link’s encoding resolution width lets Quest users manually set image sharpness when playing PC VR games.

Adjusting this and other encoding factors like bitrate and sharpening through the Debug Tool allows visual optimization based on your PC hardware. Just be mindful of maximum display settings to avoid instability.

Fine-tuning these graphics allows Quest owners to experience top-tier PC-quality VR visuals from the Oculus library.

So if you want to push your VR gaming to the next level visually, tweak encoding settings to revel in truly immersive, high-res VR worlds.

The Meta Quest previously known as the Oculus Quest was rebranded by Meta in 2022. The Oculus Quest 2 was launched in 2020 and it is based on Android source code.

But with any device, having the right charger and charging practices is key to keeping it powered up. So what wattage charger does the Quest 2 require and how can you charge it properly?

This article will cover the ideal charger wattage for optimal Quest 2 charging, whether higher wattages cause issues, the charging time with standard adapters, and tips for replacing damaged charger components.

By the end, you should know the kind of chargers you should be using and what kind of chargers you should be avoiding.

Oculus Quest 2 Charger Wattage?

The Oculus Quest 2 comes with a 10-watt charger out of the box. These are the standard chargers which run at 5 volts and 2 amps.

You could use another charger too if you want to.

We recommend that you use a 10 watt charger that it came with but you can use other 10 watt chargers as well. Make sure they are of good quality.

This means if you use a charger with higher wattage, that won’t affect its charging speed. Mainly because the device doesn’t support faster charging than that.

So I recommend you use the charger that comes with the device. But if you have lost yours or have damaged it you can always use a USB charger with minimum requirements of 5 volts, 2 amperes, and 10 watts.

A charger with these specs will take 2 hours to fully charge your Oculus from 0%.

How Much Wattage Do I Need?

The recommended wattage is 10 watts but the minimum wattage you need to charge Oculus Quest 2 is 5 watts.

At this wattage, you will be just fine and ready to hook up your device to the charger. Anything above this minimum wattage of 5w will speed up your charging time.

But keep in mind that the circuitry of the device is designed for 10 watts max and increasing the wattage above 10w will affect the charging speed.

Just make sure to use a charger with a wattage between 5 watts and 10 watts. Anything below 5 watts won’t charge your device.

What Happens If I Use Higher Watts?

As previously discussed the recommended charger for your device is 10 watts. You could use a potent adapter to charge your device but it serves no purpose to your device.

There might be negative effects of using a higher-wattage adapter.

But if you use it always make sure to disconnect the charger just before the battery reaches 100%.

If you overcharge your device using an adapter of higher wattage, there is a chance of permanent damage to your battery.

To avoid such circumstances and increase the life of your device make sure you use the recommended 10-watt charger.

If a 10 watt charger is not available you can use any charger with wattage above 5 watts. Using a charger with lower wattage than 10w will increase charging time but it will charge the device.

Using a charger with a higher wattage than 10w will have no effect on charging speed but it might harm your battery and also affect the device’s performance.

Should I Use a Charger With a Higher Wattage?

We recommend only using 10W as this is what the Oculus can handle. Any more and you run into the risk of damaging the batter over a long period of time.

Using a charger with higher wattage than the recommended 10 watts might increase your charging speed, but it can cause irreplaceable damage to the Lithium component of the battery.

If your original battery is damaged your device might not work as it did before. Make sure you replace the battery with the original one that the manufacturer recommends.

You will be able to find the original batteries of Oculus on Craig’s list. You can also source the batteries from other damaged Oculus that people are selling online.

Replacing the damaged battery with the original one will give you the best performance out of the device.

What Charger to Use For the Quest 2?

If you have damaged the wire, you lost it or your pet chewed it. You can always use a USB type c 3.0 with the original headset or adapter and you are good to go.

There is no need to buy a whole charger for little damage to the wire or adapter.

Type c chargers look different to USB charger. The port is much smaller so they should be easier to spot.

These things are replaceable and you might not find the original because the company only sells it with the device. If you are lucky you might find someone selling online on other marketplaces.

If you don’t find one it doesn’t matter just find a good quality USB C 3.0 adapter. It will work just as the original one.

There are plenty of good quality USB type c 3.0 in the market. These alternatives will be as good as the original ones in quality and performance.

Just make sure their output is 5 volts, 2 amps. As long as you have these specs it will work just fine.

How Fast Will 10W Charge My Quest 2

The Oculus Quest 2 comes with a 10-watt charger. We recommend that you use that but you can use other chargers as well as long as their wattage is above 5w.

The standard 10w charger that comes with the Oculus Quest 2 will take 2 to 3 hours to charge your device from 0% to 100%.

If you use a charge with less wattage that time will increase indefinitely. In the same way, if you use a charger with higher wattage than the standard 10w, it might decrease the charging time of the device.

There is also a risk involved in not using the recommended 10-watt charger, in the long run it can affect your battery and damage the lithium component of the battery.

So you are better off using the 10w charger for a longer life of your device.

To charge the Oculus Quest 2 you need a 10-watt charger which runs on 5 volts and 2 amps.

As long as your adapter has these specs you don’t need to worry about anything. Any alternatives to these specs have been discussed in the article.

Wattage to Charge Other Oculus devices

Now that we have discuseed how much energy is needed to charge your Quest 2, its worth noting how this comapres to teher Oculus device.

Now with the recent introduction of the Quest 3, Oculus has came out and said that it needs 18W to fully charge the device.

This is almost double what it would take to charge the Quest 2. This seems to be because of the new features of the Quest 3. Such as things like a better battery and larger FOV etc.

However, the Quest 1 device also comes with the same watts required to charge it which is 18. You would think that you would need much less, however, the Quest 1 was one of its kind.

It most likley required more compononents that were less optmised and much larger. This obiulsy requires more energy input to run it.

You can use any charger whichever device comes with to charge your Quest 2. It may not charge it optimilaly, but this wont damamge your device in any sense of the word.

My Final Thoughts

In closing, to safely provide power to the Meta/Oculus Quest 2, use the included 10W (5V/2A) USB-C charger or an equivalent third-party model.

While lower wattages will charge slower and higher wattages risk gradual battery damage, 10W strikes the ideal balance of charge speed and safety.

Using things like a PC to charge your Oculus will slow down charging time and will not deliver as high of a wattage as what you would need to fully charge it within its normal charging timeframe.

Expect full recharges from empty to take around 2-3 hours on the stock charger. Be mindful to replace any damaged charging cables or adapters with equivalents meeting the 5V/2A/10W specification.

Following these charging guidelines will keep your Quest 2 battery and headset functioning optimally for the long term.

The Oculus Quest 3 is the latest virtual reality headset from Meta, offering a whole host of improvements including a new and better display.

One common question between people who are thinking of getting the Quest 3, and those who have it is whether or not it comes with the screen door effect.

No, the Quest 3 does not come with the screen door effect, however, you may still be able to see the pixels on your screen due to its new high-quality display.

In this article, I’ll be covering what exactly SDE is, explaining in detail why some users might still see pixelation on the Quest 3, and comparing other devices with no SDE.

I’ll also be explaining in detail, what the screen door effect is and how many people get it confused.

Does Quest 3 Have Screen Door Effect?

No, the Quest 3 doesn’t have SDE (Screen door effect) since this was confirmed by the Meta users themselves, however many users still say they are experiencing it.

This is different compared to other models like the Quest 2 which did come with a noticeable SDE, however, it hasn’t really been that big of a problem when it comes to Quest devices in general.

Since the Quest 3 does come with a better display quality, users will be able to see the screen indetail which will include them seeing pixels.

Many of those users will then mistake this for SDE when it, in fact, isn’t, you’re just able to see people due to there being a higher resolution.

Why Can I Still See the Screen Door Effect

If you are still seeing the Screen Door Effect, it is just because of the resolution. This isn’t exactly bad, you are just able to see more of the screen due to better picture quality.

This makes things less blurry and more detailed compared to the Quest 2.

With a higher Field of View than the Quest 2, you’re also seeing more of the screen which will result in you noticing more minute details such as this one.

You will also have to keep in mind that SDE may occur on certain games even if the device itself doesn’t come with this display deficit.

Games that come with a certain effect, have outdated graphics, or are just not that compatible with the Quest 3 may appear to be more pixelated due to there being worse graphics and image quality.

You can’t then, however, mistake this for the Screen Door effect. If you are seeing the Screen Door Effect on your Quest 3, it would be wise to blame it on the game and not the headset.

These are just how certain games are designed. To confirm this, you can just compare different games and have a look at how their screen quality differs.

Games like Dungeons of Eternity do show a lot of pixels during gameplay due to the outdated graphics. This isn’t what you call SDE, it’s just the design of the game.

So keep this in mind when you want to get rid of your Oculus.

What Actually is The Screen Door Effect?

Many people actually wonder what the screen door effect is. A big misconception is that it’s about seeing pixels. It’s not just about the pixels, it’s the hidden spaces between them that make a grid-like pattern.

This effect makes the view a bit fuzzy and blurry, making it difficult to concentrate on the game. It’s just a digital mesh, creating a visual gridlock in a digital world.

So, the difference between that you can see the gaps between the pixels. This can disrupt a lot of users during gameplay and make it difficult to focus on the game.

With the Quest 3, you can see the pixels on your screen with certain games, however, this is just due to the high quality.

You won’t be able to see all those tiny little annoying gaps between each pixel which causes you to lose concentration.

VR Devices With No Screen Door Effect

If you’re fed up with your device giving you the Screen Door Effect, don’t worry, there are still some devices that come with no screen door effect.

The devices down below take the lead in making strides to get rid of this annoying screen defect.

The Samsung Odyssey

The Anti-SDE diffuser used in the Samsung Odyssey + makes the display look a bit softer. The Field of View is similar to the Valve Index despite technical differences.

It offers good colors with an OLED Screen, but the audio is not as strong. Inside-out tracking makes setup easier.

You can adjust it according to your eyes, but it is not made anymore, usually, it’s only available second hand.

HP Reverb G1

The HB Reverb G1 has the same resolution as G2. Unlike the Samsung Odyssey, the colors are not great due to the LCD screen. In terms of audio, it runs at 90 Hz.

Setup is easy with inside-out tracking, but there is no adjustment to your eyes. This headset was replaced by G2.

HP Reverb G2

With better display and bright colors, HP Reverb G2 has the same resolution as G1. The Field of View is bigger than Oculus but smaller than Odyssey+ and Valex Index.

The audio runs at 90 Hz. Easy setup with Inside-out tracking and adjustable to eyes. These are available for pre-order.

My Final Thoughts

The Oculus Quest 3 has made major changes to stop the screen door effect from occurring since it has plagued most VR devices in recent years.

By removing the grid-like gaps between pixels, the Quest 3 provides more immersive, uninterrupted views into virtual environments, rather than a fuzzy boxy screen which reduces gameplay quality.

You may still notice some plication due to the high-resolution display from the Quest 3 since you will be able to see finer details but this wouldn’t be classed as an SDE effect.

You will notice the higher resolution screen rather than fixating on the smaller pixels.

Despite the high-quality display, the Quest 3 will be a stand-alone device that displays minimal SDE while offering a high-quality display.

If you’re having issues entering the 8-digit code to link your Meta/Oculus device then you’re in the right place.

Many users have been having no luck when entering this 8-digit code due to a bug that has resulted in preventing users from fully setting up their meta accounts, locking them out from games and content.

Fortunately, there are a few troubleshooting steps you can try to fix the annoyance

In this article, I’ll be covering the reasons for this error, showing you where to actually go to put in the code, and things to do if nothing is working when you enter the code. You will resolve this issue by the time you finish reading it.

Why is www Meta com/device Code Not Working?

The main reason you can’t enter the 8-digit code is because of a glitch with your device. For whatever reason, a bug has been going around which causes an error whenever a user tries entering the code.

Meta still hasn’t gotten around to fixing this problem which has annoyed a lot of users considering this issue has been happening for over a year now, around the time Facebook changed its parent company name to Meta.

There are a few things that cause such errors but you first need to make sure the software on your devices is running smoothly and that can only be done by resetting and restarting your device.

If none of these options work then you just have to wait until Meta fixes this problem which could potentially take another few months depending on how many Meta users report the issue which I will be showing you how to do later on in this article.

What’s The Code For?

Facebook migrated old accounts to meta accounts seeing that it’s technically a new company. This code allows you to finish setting up your meta account. Once you have done this, you can disconnect it from Facebook.

This change stops you from losing everything in the event that your Facebook account is banned.

To put it simply, if your Facebook account was banned, deleted or just randomly disappeared, you will still have all of your Oculus stuff since the two don’t rely on each other.

Where Do I Enter The Code?

A lot of users seem to be confused as to where they actually put in a code since they aren’t given anywhere to put it in when instructed to do so.

You will need to put it into this Meta authentication page. First, you want to click on the continue with Facebook option to log in with the new meta account.

Once you have logged in successfully, you will be taken to the accountscenter.meta.com. From here, remove your Facebook account from this Accounts Centre

If you are told to create a new meta account then click on the authentication link again and click Log in with Email. Make sure to use the email address associated with your Meta and Oculus accounts.

If you don’t know what email address you use then you will have to contact support which I will show you how to do towards the end of the article.

Once you have logged in with your previous account, go to this page https://accountscenter.meta.com/connected_experiences/single_sign_on and add your Facebook account to this Accounts Centre.

Restart Your Headset

If you have been trying to put in the 8-digit code, you aren’t receiving it or nothing is working, then you should consider restarting your headset.

The software within your headset could be causing glitching problems which may be why your code isn’t working. You don’t lose any important information by just restarting your headset.

In order to restart your headset, you will need to:

  1. Press and hold the power button on the right-hand side of your headset till you see the Power off screen
  2. Now Press on the Restart option. Your headset will go off and then back on

If this didn’t work then try this:

  1. Press and hold the power button for at least 10 seconds. This will turn off your headset manually
  2. Allow for 30 seconds.
  3. Press and hold the power button until your headset turns back on.

Once you have done all of this, you should try using your VR again and see if any problems arise.

Log Out of All Sessions

Another reason you could be having problems with your Meta account is that there are too many sessions running on your account.

This can cause conflicts when you’re trying to set up your Meta account which will stop you from doing it successfully.

The best thing to do is to check how many sessions you’re logged into and log out of all of them. This can be done in your security settings.

  • 1. Go to auth.meta.com/settings/security/
  • 2. Click LOG OUT OF ALL SESSIONS.
  • 3. In your headset, a device code screen should appear.
  • 4. Follow the prompts on your screen to enter your device code. After you log back in, your device should restart

This will remove all of the accounts you’re logged into and leave the one you’re currently using.

Factory Reset

If you are willing to do this then you will fix the problem for good, however, what most people worry about with this solution is that all their data will be wiped from their headsets.

Now if you aren’t worried about that then you’re all good to go. However, if you aren’t, then you will need to save it somewhere and there are a multitude of ways to do this.

Bare in mind if you do go through with resetting your headset, all data will be wiped. You will still have access to purchase through your meta account.

To factory reset using your phone:

  1. Open the Meta Quest app on your mobile device.
  2. Click Menu then select the Devices option.
  3. Choose the headset connected to your phone.
  4. Press Headset settings, then click Advanced settings.
  5. Select Factory reset, then Reset.

To perform a factory reset using the headset:

  1. Make sure your headset is turned off.
  2. At the same time, hold the power and volume buttons until the boot screen loads up
  3. Use the volume buttons to navigate to Factory Reset and then click the power button.
  4. Use the volume button to highlight Yes and click the power button.

Re-Add the Account

If it’s one account you’re having trouble with in relation to the 8-digit code, then I would recommend that you remove the account and then add it back to your device.

To do this, you will need to hover over the clock icon in your menu in order to access Quick Settings. Now press on it to open Quick Settings

Press on Settings in the top right corner, then tap Accounts.

Click on Remove next to whichever account you want to remove, then select Remove again to confirm.

You can e add this account again in settings by going into Settings and then selecting Add Account.

Contact Meta Store Support

If you’re still having issues with getting this 8-digit code to work then you will have to contact Meta Support. Once you land on this page you will need to do the following things.

  1. You need to scroll down and click on Account under “Tell us what is happening”
  2. Next, click on App or Service since this is a Meta account-related issue
  3. Select Meta Account FAQ
  4. Scroll all the way down and click on the blue Contact Support button
  5. From here, put in all of your details and click on “Start Chat with Agent”
  6. From here, let your support representative know what is going on in detail
meta support chat

After this, your ticket will be submitted and you should hear back from them within a few hours. They may refer you to what’s already in this article, however, if you have a specific then this may help you a bit more.

My Final Thoughts

In summary, the 8-digit Meta device code is necessary for completing account setups in order to use your Oculus normally and your Meta accounts fully.

However, software glitches may block entering this code and prevent access.

By restarting and factory resetting the device, and contacting Meta support if needed, you can get around this issue pretty easily. It’s only a matter of keeping all of your data once you reset your device.

Using all the solutions provided, you should be able to fully restore your account and hopefully, get the 8-digit code to work. This will allow you to use your accounts normally again.

If you don’t want to reset your device then you will just have to wait for Facebook to resolve the issue.

Seeing the “Oops! Nothing to show here HDSLVC2” error on your Oculus headset can understandably raise some questions and concerns.

This issue typically arises when users are trying to connect to the store and is usually caused by account syncing problems, WiFi connectivity failures, or software bugs preventing proper functionality.

While frustrating, the error can often be resolved with some common solution that fix most errors on the Oculus device.

In this article, I’ll be explaining why you’re seeing the HDSLVC2 code and actionable solutions to get your Oculus back up and running, ranging from account management to factory resets.

Why is Oculus Saying HDSLVC2?

There are various reasons why your Oculus Quest 2 or Quest 1 is showing the error code hdslvc2. The main reason this happens is because of Facebook syncing account issues.

If your Facebook accounts aren’t synced properly then you will experience this problem in most cases. Another reason you may be seeing this error code is because of wifi connection problems.

If you’re Oculus app isn’t connected to a good wifi signal, it may have trouble working properly hence why you’re seeing the hdslvc2 error.

Headset syncing issues could also be the culprit as to why you’re seeing this error code. You will need to try a few solutions which include syncing your accounts properly in order to fix this problem.

Sync Accounts Properly

If your accounts aren’t synced properly then you will need to make sure you fix this issue first before you go onto the next solution.

Since Facebook recently introduced Meta, Facebook users have had to switch to Meta systems rather than just the normal Facebook app.

Because of the introduction of a new name, synchronization account issues arose between Oculus users and Meta Horizon accounts.

The first thing that would help is to remove all of the accounts on your device. This can be done by going to settings and then into accounts. Once you have done this you will want to re-add them.

Now all that’s left to do is to sync your accounts. On the mobile app, open the Oculus app menu > settings >”Your account” (the last) > profile > your name > horizon > sync.

Factory Reset

This is the only method that gets rid of this problem once and for all. This is because it basically resets your Oculus device to the first time you had it.

Wiiing all the data on your device is the best way to get over most software errors. An error like this can easily be overcome by a factory reset.

This method basically gets rid of anything that could be causing the error in the first place. It will definitely fix your problem, but it’s not the best go-to solution.

Bear in mind that you will wipe all the data on your headset since you’re basically resetting to the point where you first purchased it.

If you don’t want to lose all of your data then

To Factory Reset Your Oculus:

  1. Open the Oculus app on your phone.
  2. Click Devices in the bottom menu.
  3. Choose the headset connected to your phone.
  4. Select Advanced Settings.
  5. Click on Factory Reset
  6. Press Reset.

Finish Headset Setup

A lot of the time, you may be seeing g this error code because of a headset syncing issue. When you haven’t set up your headset properly, your Oulsu will not be able to work properly.

A lot of people don’t seem to have finished this part of the setting after getting their Oculus which is why they experience problems like this error code later down the line.

To do this, you will need to open the Meta Oculus App on your phone.

From here, you want to go under Device > Turn on your Meta Quest 2 headset, and then in the app, select “Finish Headset Setup”.

Once you have done this, you should stop seeing this really annoying error code.

ReConnect Your Headset to WiFi

One of the main reasons I mentioned previously as to why you may be seeing this error code was because of a wifi problem.

If your Oculus headset isn’t connected to a good stable wifi connection then you may be presented with this code.

Oculus does not always need internet in order to be used but if you want access to some of its features like the store then an internet connection is needed. This issue usually arises when users are trying to connect to the store.

Before you do this you will need to make sure that your Oculus is connected to your phone via the mobile app.

To Connect Your Headset to WiFi:

  • Tap Menu at the bottom
  • Click on Devices
  • Tap the headset you are currently using.
  • Under Headset settings, click on Wi-Fi.
  • Choose the Wi-Fi network you want to connect to and put in the password.

Try a Mobile Hotspot

Alternatively, you can always try using your mobile hotspot instead of using a wifi connection. A lot of users have reported that this troubleshooting method seemed to do the trick for them.

It could be that your wifi connection still isn’t good enough for your oculus and therefore, your mobile data was what did the trick.

If you have tried connecting to the store and you’re still seeing the HDSLVC2 error then switch to your a mobile hotspot.

Perform a Software Update

Error codes can often be a result of outdated software on your Oculus. If you haven’t updated the software on your device then this could be one of the reasons why it’s not working.

When you don’t update the software on your Meta Quest, it allows bugs to infiltrate your device hence why you may be having problems like this.

These updates are designed to patch these vulnerabilities so you don’t continually experience these bugs and glitches.

To Check For a Software Update:

  1. Press on the Meta button on your right touch controller
  2. Select Quick Settings, when it appears to open the Quick Settings panel by hovering over the clock Icon.
  3. Press on the Settings Icon in the top right corner
  4. Tap Systems, then Software Update to check for an update.

Contact Oculus Support

if you have tried all of the solutions and nothing seems to be working for you then your next best bet is to contact Oculus support.

They will be able to guide you on all of the things I have mentioned in this article. They will also be able to advise you on what to do since they deal with this on a day-to-day basis.

In order to contact support, you will need to visit the Oculus support website. From here you will need to start a live chat and connect yourself to an agent.

meta support chat

Once you have done this, you will need to explain in detail what you’re seeing on your device. In this case, explain that you keep seeing the error code hdslvc2.

My Final Thoughts

In most cases, the HDSLVC2 Oculus error stems from accounts and devices falling out of sync or software bugs.

By double-checking account connections, resetting and setting up your headset from scratch, ensuring stable WiFi, and keeping firmware updated, you can usually resolve the problem for good.

And if issues continue, Oculus’ support team can provide tailored troubleshooting advice.

With some persistence, you should be able to get rid of the error so you can use your device hassle-free.

The no command error occurs whenever users try to boot up their Oculus device. You’re usually presented with the classic Android bot and a message saying “No Command”.

Seeing the “No Command” error when trying to start up your Meta Quest headset shouldn’t cause panic as it’s usually harmless.

This ambiguous message is usually the result of a glitch or software bug preventing the device from booting up properly.

Thankfully, there are several troubleshooting steps you can take to get your Oculus back up and running.

In this article, I’m going to show you how you can get rid of the display message and get your Oculus to work properly again.

Why is Meta Quest Saying No Command?

There are a few reasons why your meta quest device is displaying a “No Command” screen. The most common reason would be a glitch.

Because this display is not meant to show up when your Oculus is working properly, it would be considered a glitch since this is not what Oculus developers intended.

These sorts of glitches are caused by bugs which are usually down to outdated software.

Other reasons why you’re seeing the No Command error are because of other apps installed on your device.

These other apps can cause conflicts and may not be compatible with your device. Especially if they’re from unknown sources.

Perform a Hard Reboot

One of the best ways to get around this problem is to hold on to the power button on your Oculus for 10 seconds. This will hard reboot your Oculus which will reset its software and get rid of this problem in most cases.

The power button is located on the side of your headset. This is the only button you should press to perform the reboot.

Rebooting the Oculus temporarily resets it to stop any glitches currently ongoing on the device. You won’t lose any important information that is on the device.

This is different than doing a hard reset which completely wipes everything on your device.

Hard rebooting is a better way to force-stop glitches that are currently happening. Just turning it off is a step below this. which I’ll show you how to do down below.

Wait For a Second

A lot of the time all you need to do is wait for the Oculus to do its own thing and it will get out of the No COmmand screen by itself.

This may be because the headset is showing this screen for a reason, and all it needs is a bit of time until it comes out of there alone.

It could just be that you’re not meant to do anything at all and all you have to do is wait a minute or two until you’re headset is working fine again.

So if I were you instead of going onto the next few methods, I would just wait for up to 3 minutes. If nothing else has changed with your device, then go on to the next few solutions.

Turn Off the Headset

This is similar to a reboot, but instead of the Oculus starting back up by itself, you have to wait for a few seconds, before turning it back on.

Turning off your headset gives it time to reset if it’s currently having some trouble starting up properly. This is a common troubleshooting tip for most Oculus devices that are having software problems.

To turn off the headset:

  • 1. Press and hold the power button on the right-hand side of your Oculus until you see the power off-screen.
  • 2. Now select Restart on the screen until your Oculus turns back on.

If you’re still seeing the No Command message on the screen, move on to the next solution.

Update Oculus Software

If your Oculus hasn’t been updated in a while, this can cause a lot of problems to arise. When a Meta Quest 2 hasn’t been updated to a recent software update, this means that it is vulnerable to bugs and glitches.

This is because Oculus software updates clean up and patched vulnerabilities users have been reporting and complaining about.

It could be that Oculus has addressed this No Command with a recent update, but you haven’t taken advantage of it due to your device running on older software.

To Check For a Software Update:

  1. Press on the Meta button on your right touch controller
  2. Select Quick Settings when it appears to open the Quick Settings panel by hovering over the clock Icon.
  3. Click on the Settings Icon in the top right corner
  4. Select Systems, then Software Update to check for an update.

Factory Reset

Factory resetting your Quest device should be your last resort if nothing else has seemed to work in getting out of this screen.

Factory resetting will erase any content you have on the headset, essentially putting it back to how it was when you first purchased it.

This may be beneficial to you as there could be a whole host of reasons causing this problem. So wiping everything on the device should troubleshooting and get rid of whatever is causing it.

Keep in mind that it will wipe all the data on your device, however, this is the trade-off for corrupted software getting wiped too.

To Factory Reset Your Oculus:

  1. Open the Oculus app on your phone.
  2. Click Devices in the bottom menu.
  3. Choose the headset connected to your phone.
  4. Select Advanced Settings.
  5. Click on Factory Reset
  6. Press Reset.

Plug it in

Simply plugging your Oculus device using the charging cable and a rocket seemed to get rid of the problem for most users.

For whatever reason, Charging the device starts it up and gets it out of the No Command screen.

This may be because when you plug in your device and begin to charge it, it forces something else to show up on the screen.

Plug it in using the charging cable and see if that does anything. If it doesn’t, wait till it’s fully charged and then try again.

Contact Support

If you are still having trouble with getting this “Command” message on your screen, your last resort would be to contact the Oculus support team.

They are directly involved with how to fix issues like this and will be able to help you in fixing this one.

To reach Oculus, go to the Meta Support page and enter your details.

Put your information in the boxes provided and then click on the “Start Chat with Agent” button. Make sure to provide as much detail as possible and let the know the methods you have already tried.

My Final Thoughts

In most cases, the “No Command” error stems from a fairly harmless software glitch or bug.

By applying the solution mentioned above like manually rebooting, updating software, factory resetting as a last resort, or contacting support, you can typically resolve the issue.

Don’t panic if you see the “No Command” screen on your Oculus it doesn’t mean something is wrong with the headset. You just need to try a few of the steps I’ve mentioned to get rid of it.

For whatever reason, Oculus developers haven’t gotten around to addressing the problem. We’d have to hope we don’t see it in the new Quest 3.

How long can you expect the built-in battery on your Oculus Quest 2 to last before it needs recharging?

For optimal performance, the Quest 2 battery should provide around 2-3 hours of continuous gameplay or screen viewing.

The more you use it, the shorter your battery will last before you need to charge it again.

Understanding factors like battery age, usage habits, and degradation can set proper expectations for the headset’s battery life.

In this article, I’ll be answering the question “How long does the Quest 2 battery life” and the things you can do to to extend this battery life and lower its degradation.

How Long Does Oculus Quest 2 Battery Last?

For a used Oculus Quest 2, you should expect 2 hours of gameplay before your battery runs out. For a new Quest 2, the battery will last 150 hours (2 hours and 30 minutes.)

The sort of games you play will also depend on how long the battery will last.

If you are playing games that require more processing, then your battery will run out sooner. For games that don’t take up more storage or use up a lot less processing power, you should expect more hours of gameplay.

For games like Echo Arena, you will get around 1 hour 30 minutes of gameplay. This is because this game uses up a lot more components of your Headsets CPU.

Why is The Quest 2 Battery Life So Short?

The Oculus doesn’t have a long battery life compared to other devices like smartphones or PCs.

This is because the Oculus is a fairly new device that hasn’t had much time to develop as opposed to other devices that have been out for multiple decades.

The Oculus was only released a few years ago which is why they haven’t been able to extend the battery life to longer amounts of time like 10 hours.

Another thing that will affect the battery life would be the size of the screen compared to the size of the battery. Because the size of the screen is much larger, it will need a larger battery.

However, since the battery only has so much space since it’s meant to be a headset, a larger battery won’t be able to fit into it hence the shorter battery life of 2 hours.

The Quest 2 was also not designed for large amounts of gameplay like a smartphone.

Does The Battery Life Decrease Overtime

Yes, your Quest 2’s battery life will decrease over time. This is because of the type of batteries within the Oculus. The Quest 2 comes with Lithium ion batteries that tend to degrade over time which will result in them running out over time.

This degradation is mainly attributed to the way you charge it. Plugging it in and out, causing damage to the battery over time.

Since lithium batteries have only 300-500 full charging and discharging cycles, you shouldn’t expect to have a battery that will last infinitely.

How Long Will My Battery Last Before I Need to Replace It

The Quest 2’s battery will generally outlast your Oculus lifespan. The battery will rarely degrade before your Oculus is completely out of use.

The only case that your Oculus battery will need replacing before your Oculus becomes obsolete is when it has been subdue to a lot of damage.

This damage can come in the form of physical damage or high temperatures on your battery. Usually, it will take years before your Oculus battery isn’t usable anymore.

You can know if your battery doesn’t work anymore if you charge it and it doesn’t work, even when the battery is fine.

You can easily replace it by contacting Oculus Support. If you have a warranty they will cover it, or replace it for you.

How Long Does The Quest 2 Take to Fully Charge

If you have been using your Oculus up to the point that it has run out of battery, then you may be wondering how long it will take to fully recharge.

To fully charge your Oculus, it will take around 2-2.5 hours. You can shorten this time span by installing a new PCIE board if you’re using your PC to charge it.

Another thing you can do to speed up this time is to use a wall outlet rather than a USB outlet. This is because a wall outlet provides much more wattage rather than a USB outlet.

You don’t need to fully charge it in order to use it, you can always charge it while using it, but we’ll get into why that might not be such as great idea towards the end of this article.

How to Make Your Quest 2 Battery Life Last Longer

There are certain things you can do to preserve the battery of your Quest 2.

Some of these things can include the prevention of physical damage to your battery and important ways to prevent putting more stress on the battery.

The more of the tips you implement, the less you’ll have to worry about the standard charging times that come with the Quest 2.

Avoid Charging it While You Use It

Charging your Oculus while you use it can be a spell of disaster since the battery is being used up while it charges.

This just means there is more stress on your battery since it’s being used to power your Quest 2 and charge it at the same time.

This will result in battery damage over time and will make it less efficient when it comes to those quicker charging times.

Your battery won’t be able to charge to 100% even though the battery indicator on your screen says so.

The best thing you can do is simply leave it alone while it’s charging and resume gameplay once it has had a decent amount of charging time.

Avoid Charging it to 100%

Because your Oculus battery comes with a lithium battery, there are certain ways you can avoid putting stress on the batteries so they last longer in the long run.

One of the first tips to consider when it comes to preserving the battery life of your Oculus is to avoid charging it fully.

The reason you want to do this is because when your battery is charged to 100% it puts more stress on the battery since a higher voltage is needed to charge it to 100%.

Maintaining a charging status of around 80% will preserve your battery better in the long run since it isn’t using up as many full charging cycles.

Since there are limited charging cycles in Lithium batteries, the fewer charging cycles they go through, the better.

Get a Battery Pack

One thing you can do to extend your Oucusl battery life is to just use a battery pack. These are attachments you can place into your Oculus that will allow them to charge wirelessly while you use it.

I would recommend the BoBoVR M2 headset which comes with 2 battery packs, a charging dock, and a head strap to provide the ultimate experience to enhance the longevity of your gameplay.

Highly rated by other VR enthusiasts, each battery will provide you with an additional 3 hours of gameplay so you can fully immerse yourself for as long as you like.

The good thing about them is that they don’t affect your battery as directly as using a charger would since you’re charging it using an external battery (which is in the battery pack) rather than the battery within the Oculus.

The battery pack also provides more power to the Quest 2 rather than the standard battery meaning that it will take a lot less time to fully charge it.

Battery Life Across All Models

The Oculus has had a similar battery life across all of its models. Starting from the Oculus Rift which had a similar sharing time to the now-current Quest 2.

All models including the Go and the Rift S have batteries that would usually last 2-3 hours on full charge.

The battery times haven’t seen much development since the very first device and no one knows why this is.

It’s unlikely that future models which see a start increase in battery life but with the advancements in technology, I wouldn’t hold my breath.

Meta is constantly innovating so we should hope for a stark increase in battery life for future models.

Conclusion

With typical use, an Oculus Quest 2 battery will last for around 2-3 hours on a full charge when new.

This duration can decrease over time due to lithium battery degradation. But by avoiding charges to 100%, excessive heat, and damage, you can extend the usable lifespan.

While the battery may need replacing eventually, it should reliably last multiple years with proper care and charging habits.

Just be sure to take short breaks and have a USB-C cable handy for when the low battery warning appears.

With all hardware built directly into the headset itself, the Oculus Quest offers an untethered VR experience right out of the box.

But with its self-contained design, some may wonder – do you need an internet connection to use Oculus Quest?

The short answer is no, the Quest does not require internet access to function. However, there are some limitations.

While single-player games can be enjoyed offline, multiplayer gaming, software updates, and entertainment apps will need an internet connection.

Understanding what the Oculus Quest can and can’t do offline is helpful for deciding when WiFi is necessary and making the most of your VR headset regardless of connectivity.

Can You Play Oculus Quest Offline?

Oculus Quest 2 is entirely standalone – it doesn’t require any external hardware or a PC to run games or apps. However, there are some limitations on what you can do without an internet connection:

If you want to play multiplayer games, they must support local multiplayer or “pass-and-play.” It means two people use their headsets and controllers, but both must be in the same room simultaneously.

You can’t use voice chat if you don’t have an internet connection. It isn’t much of an issue for most people because headsets like Oculus Quest 3 already have built-in headphones that support audio chat over Bluetooth.

Oculus Quest Initial Setup Needs Internet

The Oculus Quest 2 initial setup needs the internet for registration and other purposes.

Quest’s initial design does require a phone or computer with internet access. You’ll need to connect it to the internet to download the Oculus app on your phone or computer and register the headset and controllers.

Here is how you can do the initial setup without the internet:

1) Download the Oculus app on your phone.

2) Open it and click on the “Get Started” tab.

3) Click on “Sign up.”

4) Enter your email address, password, and security code (if required).

You Can Play Offline After Initial Setup

Once you have set up Oculus, you can play offline. It is the way to go.

If you want to play offline, you do not need the internet connection active. The game will work without it. However, if you use the Oculus Home app, you will need an active internet connection.

Once you have set up your Oculus with all its software and drivers, it’s time to play games! There are two ways to do this: online or offline.

If you’re going with the first option, we recommend using an Ethernet cable rather than Wi-Fi for better performance and less lag time during gameplay.

In addition, make sure that your computer has a solid Internet connection before starting the installation process, and make sure that there are no problems later on down the line (this especially applies if you live in an area where there’s no high-speed broadband).

However, there are some limitations to playing offline on the Oculus Quest.

Oculus Offline Restrictions

  • Only single-player games with no multiplayer games can be played offline.
  • You can only play games that have been optimized for the Quest.
  • You can’t download new games while you’re offline.
  • Games can’t be played online
  • Things like Netflix and YouTube can’t be watched offline
  • Virtual desktop apps like Virtual Desktop can’t be used without an internet connection

Can You Play Games on Oculus Without The Internet?

Yes, you can play games on Oculus Quest without Wi-Fi, but only offline and downloaded ones.

It means games that don’t require an internet connection or online multiplayer support.

You’ll need an internet connection if you want to get online and play online multiplayer games like Doom VR or Star Wars: Vader Immortal: A Star Wars VR Series.

You’ll also need an active subscription to Oculus Venues if you want access to events like concerts or sports matches through the app’s live streaming service.

There are a few ways to play games on Oculus without the internet.

The easiest way is to use the Oculus Browser, a separate app that lets you browse the web without going through Facebook. You can download and install it from the Oculus Store.

You can also use an Android emulator like BlueStacks or Nox Player, which will let you run most Android apps on your computer. Just make sure you have installed Google Play Services on your PC before using it with an emulator, or else it won’t work correctly.

Finally, there’s Virtual Desktop for Windows and macOS, which lets you use your PC as a virtual screen for playing games in VR mode on any monitor connected to your computer.

How to Watch Movies Offline on Oculus

The Oculus headset is one of the most popular virtual reality headsets. With it, you can immerse yourself in a world of games and movies.

But what if you don’t have an internet connection? Here’s how you can watch movies on your Oculus without internet access.

Streaming services like Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime Video are some of the best ways to catch up on your favorite shows while traveling.

It’s easy to imagine using this feature while lounging in a hotel bed after a long flight or sitting in an airport waiting for your next flight, but what happens when you’re out of range?

That’s where offline playback comes into play. Here’s how you can download content from Hulu or Netflix onto your device so that you can watch it later without an internet connection or Wi-Fi access:

To download these streaming services and watch movies offline using Oculus Quest 2, you will need a storage device that supports the USB 3.0 protocol.

If your laptop doesn’t have this port, you will need to buy an external storage device with this functionality, such as an external hard drive or flash drive.

If you don’t have a network, move it to an SD card or USB drive, then insert the card or drive into your Quest device; this won’t work with external drives.

You don’t need additional downloads or software installed on your computer; just move the file.

How to Connect Oculus to Wi-Fi

You can connect your Oculus to Wi-Fi in several ways, which include:

By using the included controller or remote control. Press the Home button on either controller, then select Settings > Connections > Wi-Fi. Select your network and enter the password when prompted.

Using a USB cable connected directly from your PC or Mac computer to your device’s micro USB port; will give you access to features like streaming media from your computer’s library or mirroring its display on the headset’s screen.

You’ll also need an HDMI cable if you want to use an external display with your Oculus Go device.

This is not included with the purchase but is available at many electronics retailers online and offline as well as online marketplaces such as Amazon.com.

Does Oculus Come With Offline Games?

The Oculus comes with a built-in library of offline games which can be viewed in the Oculus Store.

Several options are available if you’re interested in playing games with your Oculus.

The Oculus Store includes hundreds of titles to choose from. The store is also divided into two sections: Games and Apps & Experiences.

If you want to explore the world of virtual reality, we recommend starting with some of its most popular free titles.

Which Games Come Offline

Arizona Sunshine: Arizona Sunshine is one of the most popular games among all the free offline Oculus Rift games. In this game, you will have to fight against zombies in the Arizona desert while defending yourself from them and trying to find your way out safely!

VRChat: If you want to socialize with other people in virtual reality, then VRChat is one of the best options that you can go with!

Lucky’s Tale: The adorable fox from Playful Corp.’s colorful platforming game Lucky’s Tale is back for a new VR adventure! Explore new worlds, meet fascinating creatures, and help Lucky find his best friend in this delightful game.

Henry: Explore Henry’s virtual home in VR with Touch controllers as you discover how he uses his imagination to bring toys and appliances to life in unexpected ways.

Oculus Dreamdeck: Travel through outer space, watch whales breach in the deep sea, and visit otherworldly destinations across the solar system at hyperspeed — before returning home to Earth.

My Final Thoughts

The Oculus is a standalone VR headset that doesn’t require a PC or smartphone to operate, unlike other high-end headsets like the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive.

Oculus is one of a kind. It’s a standalone VR headset that doesn’t require any other device to work or an internet connection to play games. All you need to do is plug it into a wall outlet and start playing games immediately.

But what if you want to take your Oculus with you on vacation? Oculus has a few different ways to watch entertainment without an internet connection.

The most obvious way is to have a local video on your device.

Oculus Link lag is one of the most common issues reported by VR users who have just bought the device. And while it’s not clear why this is happening, there are several ways to fix it.

Oculus Link also allows you to stream your PC games to your Oculus Rift with a secure Wi-Fi connection rather than using a cable.

Oculus Air link lag occurs due to poor wifi connectivity. It is best you check your internet connection if you want to avoid a laggy Airlink connection.

In this article, we will discuss why Oculus Link is so laggy and the steps you can take to resolve this issue.

Why is Oculus Air Link So Laggy?

Some games can be laggy because they’re multiplayer games that require you to have a good internet connection for it to work.

If your internet connection isn’t fast enough, you will experience lag and other issues while playing the game.

And if you want to fix this problem, you need to get a good internet connection, which would support Air Link without any issues.

You can use multiple methods to increase your internet connection speed and make sure that it supports Oculus your gameplay without any issues.

Update Windows

Updating Windows 10 will help prevent lag if the problem is related to outdated Windows software.

This is because later versions of Windows may not be capable of supporting Oculus gameplay especially if you’re using Airlink and playing PC VR games.

Update windows in your settings and give your device permission to reset.

Check Your Wi-Fi Status

There are several reasons why Oculus Link might cause laggy gameplay.

The first reason is that you may be experiencing high latency on your network and not realize it is because your WiFi connection may not be strong enough for streaming and gaming simultaneously.

You can check this by opening your Network Settings under Settings > Network & Internet > Status > More Information.

If you see an orange triangle next to “WiFi,” this indicates poor signal strength or quality.

To fix this issue, try moving closer to your router or using Ethernet instead of WiFi if possible, but note that this won’t fix all latency issues.

Update Your Oculus

If your PC or laptop isn’t Oculus Link compatible, you may experience a lag in the game. If you want to avoid this, make sure your PC or laptop is Oculus Link compatible.

You can do this by making sure your oculus is up to date. When an Oculus is out of date, the software can contain bugs that will slow down all aspects of the device.

Once you update it, it should be working normally again, especially features like Air Link and your gameplay.

To Check if Your PC is Oculus Link Ready:

  1. Download the Oculus app from the store on your phone and sign in with your account credentials.
  2. On the app’s home screen, tap on ‘Settings’ and then tap on “Check for updates.” This will update your software version to 1.23 and install any available updates.
  3. After installing the update, go back to Settings and click on “Check for updates” again until it says that there are no further updates available for download.

Use Performance Overlay (HUD) to Measure Changes

Performance Overlay (HUD) to Measure Changes can help prevent Oculus Air Link Quest from being so Laggy.

Performance Overlay (HUD) to Measure Changes is a tool that allows you to check various system performances such as RAM usage, CPU usage, and GPU usage while playing the game on your PC.

This tool provides real-time information about all these aspects to ensure that everything is working correctly before experiencing any issues with your computer or during your gameplay session.

Using this tool will allow you to monitor all these aspects at all times so that if something goes wrong, you will be able to identify it immediately and fix it before it becomes too late for you to do so.

Restart Your PC

Restarting your PC will help prevent your Oculus Quest from being so laggy because it refreshes the memory of your CPU.

Your CPU is the brain of your computer, and a fresh restart will help clear up any issues or problems that may have been occurring while you were using it.

It is common for games to cause lag on PCs, especially if they are not running smoothly or without issues.

Many games use the processor heavily, which can cause problems for other programs and even slow down your system altogether.

Restarting your PC after playing a game will often fix this problem because it clears out all of the processes running during gameplay and allows them to start fresh again.

This means there won’t be any conflicts between programs or processes when you play again.

If you want to make sure that your system runs smoothly while using Air Link, then restart it. This will solve most problems with lag or crashing while playing this game.

Reduce Encode Bitrate

When you’re streaming a game from your PC to your headset, the quality of the video you see depends on the stream’s bitrate.

A higher bitrate means better quality, but it also means more bandwidth and power consumption.

A higher bitrate can help you enjoy your VR games better. But sometimes, it’s not necessary to use a high bitrate because you don’t need a high-quality image — especially when you’re playing in a room with other people.

In this case, reducing the encoded bitrate can improve the framerate and reduce battery drain. This will also improve the quality of your video, but at the cost of higher CPU usage during encoding.

How to Reduce Encode Bitrate:

1) Open up OBS Studio or other video recording software.

2) Go to “Settings”> “Encoding”> “Advanced Encoding Settings” If it’s not there, click on “Add Scene”, then add an “Advanced Encoding Settings” scene.

3) In the Advanced Encoding Settings, change the encoding bitrate to something much lower than it was previously set, so you can start at 8 Mbps and then test after each increment.

Restart your Oculus Headset

Restarting your Oculus headset will help prevent Oculus Air Link Quest 2 from being so laggy.

But despite all these improvements, there are still some glitches that can make the headset laggy over time. Here’s how to restart your quest if it’s having issues:

1. Turn off your headset by holding down the power button on top of your controller until it turns off. It takes about 10 seconds.

2. Wait 30 seconds before turning it back on again.

Update Your Graphics Card Drivers

The most common reason for Air Link lag is outdated graphics card drivers. Your graphics card driver controls how fast information flows between your computer and the display screen.

If it’s outdated, it may not be able to keep up with the demands of playing high-end games like Fortnite or Apex Legends on your Oculus Quest headset while using the feature.

Updating your graphics card drivers can help prevent this from happening. If you don’t have updated graphics card drivers, Air Link may not run as smoothly as you want it.

Even after updating your graphics card drivers, the problem may persist. There are many reasons why this might be happening, including:

First, the game may not be optimized for your specific graphics card. This may then require a wired connection however since you’re using a wireless connection, it may not run as smoothly as you want it.

Another reason there might be other programs running on your computer while using the Air Link feature of Oculus that are slowing down the performance of your video card or CPU/RAM.

It’s always important to close any unnecessary programs before playing a game like this one to ensure that everything runs as smoothly as possible.

Update Your Oculus Quest

Oculus Air Link has plenty of potential to improve this problem by removing the need for tethering.

But if you’re still using an older version of the Oculus software (or if you’re using one of its competitors), you might want to keep updating until things are more stable.

You should update your firmware for both your headset and your controller. You can check for updates by going into your Oculus app on your phone, selecting “My Devices,” and then selecting “Update Software.”

If there are any updates available for either of them, download them and install them on both pieces of hardware before using them again.

It’s also best to update all of your apps in case it could be a specific game that is causing the lag.

To Get Started, Follow These Steps:

1. Connect your Oculus Quest headset to your wireless network.

2. Open the Oculus app on your phone or computer, then select “Home” from the left menu.

3. Select the Library tab at the bottom of the screen, then choose My Apps & Games from the left menu.

4. Select Update All to update any available apps for download on your device.

5. If you have any apps that are still waiting to be updated after you’ve updated everything else, select My Apps & Games again and tap Notifications at the top right corner of the screen (for Android phones) or tap Updates in the top right corner of the screen (for iPhones).

Disable USB Power Saving and Selective Suspend

As mentioned above, the slow wireless connection you’re experiencing can happen for a lot of reasons. When you connect your PC to a display, it needs to draw the image from the GPU.

If your GPU is busy doing something else (like rendering VR content), the image will be delayed.

So, if you find that your computer is lagging while playing games in VR, there are two main settings you should disable: USB Power Saving and Selective Suspend.

USB power saving is a feature that disables the USB port when not in use. This is useful for preventing phantom power drain, but it can also cause problems for devices like the Quest 3.

If you’re experiencing lag with your headset, try disabling USB power-saving and see if it helps.

How to Disable Power Saving On Windows 10:

1. Open the Start menu and search for “Device Manager.” Open Device Manager and find your graphics card under Display Adapters.

2. Right-click on it and select Properties.

3. Select the Power Management tab and uncheck “Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.” Then click OK twice to close all the dialog boxes.

How to Disable Power Saving On MacOS:

Open System Preferences > Energy Saver on macOS and uncheck “Automatically reduce brightness before display goes to sleep” under Display Sleep.

How to Disable Selective Suspend

On the other hand, Selective Suspend is a feature of Windows 10 that allows programs to be suspended when they aren’t in use, which essentially means that it will prevent your computer from running some background processes while you are using other applications.

This can speed up your system performance, but it can also cause game and application problems.

How to Disable Selective Suspend:

1. Open the System Preferences menu or Control Panel if you’re using Windows.

2. Click Energy Saver under Hardware.

3. In Energy Saver, click the drop-down next to Put the computer to sleep when possible, then select Never.

4. You can also disable other options such as Display Sleep and Computer Sleep if they’re enabled.

Try a Different USB Port

Air Link is a popular way to connect your Meta Quest device headset to your PC.

It’s an official device, which means it’s guaranteed to work with the Rift and not have any compatibility issues. So why wouldn’t you want to try something else?

If you’re experiencing lag or other issues and have tried everything else, you might consider trying a different port on your PC.

Some people have found that switching ports can help solve many problems like this.

This works because each USB port has its own bandwidth limitations. While one port might be perfectly capable of handling the data from your headset, another might not be able to handle it as well.

Some people have reported that switching from one USB 3.0 port to another can make a massive difference in performance when using Oculus Rift games or apps.

Use a Different USB Cable

You should use a different USB cable when Oculus Link is laggy because these cables usually come with low-quality connectors that fail after a few months.

If you have been using your current USB cable for more than six months, it’s time to buy a new one because it may not handle high-quality data transmission anymore.

Oculus recommends using a high-quality USB 3.0 cable with a length of less than 6 feet (2 meters) when connecting to your PC. The longer your cable, the more likely you’ll experience latency and other issues.

Using a shorter USB cable can help you eliminate any potential lag issues before they happen!

The best thing about these cables is that they are inexpensive and easy to find in any store near your home or office building. You can even order them online if you want more options at your disposal!

Try Testing With Oculus Games First

There are some games that require higher CPU energy than some games

The best way to get around this is to test your games on an Oculus headset before keeping them in the Oculus Store, but if you can’t do this, there are other ways to improve performance.

If you have a high-end PC and want to try out Air Link, here’s what you need to know:

Air Link uses your computer’s CPU and GPU graphics processing for rendering graphics instead of relying on your video card.

This means that it can run at 60 frames per second (FPS), which is essential for VR applications because anything less than 60 FPS can be nauseating for some people.

However, if you have an older GPU or a lower-end CPU, using Air Link will cause a significant lag between your head movements and how quickly they appear in-game.

We recommend using another method like SteamVR or Virtual Desktop instead if this happens.

My Final Thoughts

Air Link is an optional accessory for Oculus Quest that lets you stream content from your PC to the headset.

It’s not a perfect solution. There are some limitations, like lower frame rates and resolution, but it’s still a great way to watch movies, play games, and more.

The problem is that Oculus Link can be laggy, which can cause some severe problems with your experience.

Follow the steps highlighted in this article to resolve them. If you’re still experiencing the problem, you can contact Oculus on their web form from our website.

Oculus Quest owners want to access their Steam VR library for an expanded selection of virtual reality content. However, various issues can prevent SteamVR from properly functioning with the Quest 2.

If you’re having trouble accessing stream VR on your Oculus then it is most likely due to corrupted files on your PC or issues with the version of Steam VR you have installed.

In this post, I’ll be exploring the common reasons SteamVR may not work with Quest 2 and actionable troubleshooting steps you can take to get the Steam library running on your VR.

Why Does SteamVR Not Work With Oculus Quest 2?

There are many reasons why problems may arise when trying to use Steam VR on your Oculus. One of the main reasons is because of corrupted files and drivers on your Quest 2.

Another reason you may have an issue is that you don’t have the latest Steam version on your device. I’ll be showing you how to reinstall with latest Steam app within this article.

You will also need to make sure you have the correct settings turned on and off in your Oculus app. When you don’t have the correct settings on, this may affect how your headset and Steam VR interact.

Disable Any Antivirus Software

If you have any anti-virus software on your PC then this may affect how well you can run Steam VR on your Oculus. This is because anti-virus software can prevent you from running certain apps and installing them.

This is because Steam VR can be detected as a virus app when it is safe. However, it does depend on if there are any corrupt files within the app and the website you are trying to install Steam on.

You will need to disable any anti-virus software you have on your PC. You can do this through the settings on the app you’re using.

Once you have disabled it, you should try installing the Steam VR app again and see if that will do the trick. If it doesn’t, you can enable your Anti Virus app again.

Reinstall Steam VR

If you have already installed Steam VR, you will have to reinstall it again and see if that does the trick. If you haven’t attempted to install Steam VR then you will need to try and do this first.

Reinstalling Steam VR could the the answer to your problem since it could be corrupt files on the Steam app that prevent it from being enabled in Oculus Link.

Reinstalling the app may also work if it is a glitch that is preventing you from finding it. Once you have Reinstalled it, you should:

  1. Download the PC Rift App and connect your headset
  2. Enable “Unknown Sources”
  3. Turn on Link (Beta) through the headset once it is connected
  4. Downloaded SteamVR
  5. Look for “SteamVR” app in your headset

Restarting Your Devices

You will need to restart both your PC and your Oculus app if the solutions have fixed the issue for you. Software glitches on both devices could be the reason why you’re not able to find or install the Oculus app.

Restarting both devices will clear any temporary glitches that may arise. This is because it gives a chance for the device to reset and close any files that may be causing Steam to corrupt.

To restart your PC on Windows, you can click on the Windows icon in the bottom left corner. From here, hover over the power icon and click on the restart option.

You can simply restart your Oculus app by pressing the power button and then selecting “Restart” while the headset is on

Turn on Unknown Sources

The unknown sources setting allows you to install apps from third-party services that aren’t provided by Meta or Oculus.

If this setting is turned off, you won’t be able to install apps like Steam VR as your Oculus doesn’t have permission to install outsider apps.

Once you have enabled this setting, you will be able to install it.

To Allow Content From Unknown Sources:

  1. Open the Oculus app on your computer.
  2. Click on Settings in the left menu then press on the General tab.
  3. Besides Unknown Sources, slide the toggle and then confirm this change to allow content from unknown sources.

Turn off Virtual Desktop Addon in Steam VR Plug-in Settings

If the add-ons are installed via Steam you’ll need to remove them from the Steam app and that should resolve your problem.

If you have installed them out of Steam, then you will need to remove them from Manifest. This won’t officially uninstall them, but it makes it so Steam can’t see them.

so at <steaminstall>/config/appconfig.json

Inside this file, there are several paths. one of the paths “C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Steam\\config\\steamapps.vrmanifest This is your Steam games and is managed by Steam you probably don’t want to touch this.

Any other entries are wherever the Manifest for the other apps are. You should be able to the entries safely. ( Be careful with the commas).

Update Oculus App

If none of the above have worked then you should try updating the Oculus app. If the app hasn’t been updated in a while then it will help remove any issues that may occur due to bugs.

Whenever Oculus releases software updates, they usually address issues that have been occurring on the app. If any bugs prevent you from enabling Steam VR then updating it will resolve this issue.

To update the Oculus App, Open the Oculus PC app on your computer. Select Library in the left menu, then click Updates to check for updates.

If there are no updates available, then this means there are no updates available. Your next step should be to contact Oculus which I’ll explain how to do below.

Can you Run SteamVR Without Steam?

Yes, you can run Steam VR if you are having issues with the Steam app. You will just have to run the start-up files and install them onto another device.

Once you have done this, you can just run Steam VR without ever having to use Steam.

You may run into some problems as Steam VR may try to connect to the Steam app but the majority of people who have tried this have said that it works well for them.

Contact Support

If you are still having issues with finding Steam on Oculus Link then your last step should be contacting support for both apps. This includes Oculus support and Steam VR.

This usually helps if you can’t figure out why you can’t use Steam VR on your Oculus Link. They will be able to tell you what to do.

It also helps contacting both as it’s common for Oculus support to refer you to contact support for the app you’re having trouble with.

Contact Oculus Support

To reach Oculus, go to the Meta Support page and enter your details.

Put your information in the boxes provided and then click on the “Start Chat with Agent” button. If the button is still greyed out then you need to make sure you have put in all of the necessary information.

meta support chat

Once you have been connected to an agent, you will need to explain in detail the problem you’re having with enabling Steam on the Oculus and the things you have already tried.

Contact Steam Support

If you have contacted Oculus support and they have directed you to contact Steam support, then you can go to the Steam VR support page and they will be able to assist you.

Explain the problems you’re having with the app in detail. The more detail you give, the more they will be able to assist you.

To navigate this page, just click on the Help Me With My Issue Button and sign in. If you don’t have an account then you will need to create one.

Conclusion

Issues launching SteamVR with an Oculus Quest 2 headset typically stem from software mismatches, restrictive settings, or external utility conflicts.

By reinstalling Steam VR and doing other things such as updating the app and restarting your devices, you can resolve the integration problems.

With some diligent troubleshooting, your Quest 2 and SteamVR can operate in harmony to expand your VR content options.

Just be careful in applying the solutions I have provided for you and don’t hesitate to use Oculus and Steam support if you aren’t having any luck.
